Regular Committee Meetings Schedule
Running our Centre takes a lot of work. It also involves a sense of community. Enjoy the blend of work and community at meetings of the groups described below. For the latest schedule information, go to our monthly calendar.
For a selection of highly accessible and widely applicable leadership resources, see Kootenay Shambhala Blog posts tagged leadership. You can access the posts individually here:
Council
Second Tuesday of the month, 6:30 - 8:30 PM
The Kootenay Shambhala Council is the main leadership body of our Centre. Its job is to guide, support and harmonize all of the Centre's activities according to the vision of realizing enlightened society, at our Centre and beyond. We invite all members to present proposals, concerns or suggestions, or engage in any other way. To submit a meeting agenda item or learn more, contact Lynn Dragone at nalandalynn@yahoo.com.
Practice & Education Committee
First Tuesday of every other month, 6:30 - 8:30 PM
The job of the Practice & Education Committee is to oversee and coordinate all aspects of our Centre's Shambhala Buddhist training. These include meditation instruction and practice, Open House, and Way of Shambhala programs. All members are welcome to participate, as at Council meetings (see above). To submit an agenda item or learn more, contact Russell Rodgers or Sally Albert at nelsonbuddha@gmail.com.
Drala Housekeeping Team
Sundays, 12:00 - 12:30 PM (schedule permitting)
The role of the Drala Housekeeping Team is to keep the Shambhala Centre at its sparkling best for the benefit of all. (The glossary of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche's book Ruling Your World defines drala as "the blessing energy that arises when we overcome our own aggression.") The scope of the team's work includes not just cleaning but also painting and decorating, creating flower arrangements, installing displays of good local art, and more. Everyone is welcome. To learn more, contact us at nelsonbuddha@gmail.com.
